Tim Cook has shared photos from his recent trip to China where the Apple CEO spoke to media about upcoming initiatives in the country and visited new Apple retail stores opened in the region. The photos (above and below) were posted to Cook’s new Weibo account. The head Apple exec started posting to the Chinese microblogging site, much like he does on Twitter, earlier this month. Cook spent much of his trip discussing new environmental initiatives announced by the company this month....

Apple has confirmed it will be livestreaming its just-announced March 21st media event, expected to feature several product unveilings including a 4-inch iPhone SE and 9.7 inch iPad Pro. Although all recent Apple events have been streamed online (with varying levels of success), it is nonetheless reassuring that the trend will continue so everyone can watch Apple’s newest announcements live. CNBC Mad Money host Jim Cramer says that strong performance by Apple and Tesla has led to a misleading impression of the performance of S&P 500 stocks. Cramer said that the S&P has grown more than 50% since its coronavirus low in March, but this is mostly due to the performance of tech giants, with Apple and Tesla particularly influential … Business Insider reports. Apple this week became the first ever publicly-traded company to hit a market cap of $2T, after doubling in value in just 21 weeks....

UPDATE: Workaround now available to restore access Thanks to an easy DNS hack called PlexConnect, non-jailbroken Apple TV users have been able to unofficially run the popular media server Plex on the second and third gen Apple TV since we first told you about it back in June. The hack, which required users to run an app on their Mac or PC that masquerades as the Trailers app, appears to be blocked in the latest Apple TV update pushed out this morning....

Apple MacArthur Center in Norfolk, Virginia will permanently close in the near future. The store originally opened in September 2006. In a statement issued to MacRumors, Apple confirmed the upcoming closure, although a specific date remains unannounced: MacArthur Center’s story parallels the downturn of countless malls not just due to the pandemic, but changing customer shopping trends. The mall has suffered a number of store closures in recent years. Apple hasn’t significantly updated is MacArthur Center store since it opened 14 years ago....

Apple is intent on stopping Samsung from marketing and selling “copycat” Galaxy devices in all of the European Union. Apple has already tried to ban the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in most of Europe (injunction lifted), but today they are going even farther with their legal proceedings, asking a Dutch court to ban all Galaxy series devices. The ban includes the widely popular Galaxy S II, which has seen some success in Europe....

Apple is currently involved in a legal battle with two former employees who are being charged with stealing trade secrets related to Project Titan. As that process continues, Reuters reports today that Apple is concerned the former employees might flee to China if they are given the opportunity. Xiaolang Zhang and Jizhong Chen, both Chinese-born, have been accused of stealing trade secrets related to Apple’s secretive “Project Titan” car initiative. Chen was charged back in January of this year, while Zhang was charged in July of 2018....

Apple has updated the homepage for Apple․com this weekend to honor Congressman John Lewis, who passed away on Friday at 80 years old. Apple’s new homepage foregoes all product promotion, instead showing a picture of Congressman Lewis alongside one of his quotes. Rep. Lewis was known for fighting for civil rights and equality throughout his entire life. He was elected congressman in 1986 and served as a stalwart for the civil rights movement....

Announcing version 1.0 of the first and only official pornstar iPhone application for Sunny Leone and the official application for adult star Aria Giovanni, the developer explained: The first version of Sunny Leone’s App was declined due to the explicit nature of the content. “It was just a little too ‘hot’ for Apple’s compliance department,” said a representative from Grindhouse. “We worked closely with Apple to meet all of their guidelines while developing an offering that is compelling and user friendly....

Apple has just sent out official invitations to media outlets (via CNBC) for its next special event on September 9th. The tagline this year reads “Hey Siri, give us a hint.” The event will take place at 10 am PT at Bill Graham auditorium in San Francisco, California, which was rumored to be the venue ahead of the invites. Apple struck a deal today with DHX Media to produce new animated content with Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang for its upcoming video streaming service. Bloomberg reported Apple and Google’s Motorola unit are currently in negotiations to resolve their several patent disputes and have apparently exchanged “proposals on using binding arbitration to reach a licensing agreement” for standard essential patents. According to the report, Apple said in a court filing that “such an agreement could lead to a global settlement of all of their patent disputes.” The companies have been exchanging proposals on using binding arbitration to reach a licensing agreement over patents that are essential to comply with industry standards on how phones operate....
