This morning, Apple announced plans to open a second data center in Denmark. The first unit in Viborg opens later this year (pictured in above render) and the new announcement sees a second facility being built in Aabenraa, expected to go online in 2019. It will run on 100% renewable energy and power Apple’s internet services across Europe, including iTunes Store, Siri, iMessage and Maps. The data centre would be situated in Aabenraa, close to the German border....

Following weeks and rumors of speculation, Apple has announced a media event for Wednesday, September 12th. Above is the invitation that reads “it’s almost here” (via Peter Ha). Obviously, the huge ‘5’ shadow seems to indicate that the new iPhone will be called the ‘iPhone 5’. Apple will be demoing a new version of its iPhone at this event. The new iPhone is rumored to include a thinner design, a taller, four-inch display, improved internal hardware, and more....

Apple has earned another first place ranking for its laptop customer service when compared to other tech companies. Laptop Mag today released its 2019 study that found Apple far ahead of competition like Samsung, Microsoft, HP, and more when it comes to both phone and web support for computers. Laptop Mag notes that it goes undercover to rate laptop tech support from the major tech companies for the most authentic results....

The iPhone X has been available for just over a month now, and as supply and demand start to balance out, Apple is expanding the lineup. Starting today, the iPhone X is available SIM-free and unlocked directly from Apple. If you head to Apple’s Online Store, there’s a new fifth option available when choosing which iPhone X variant you want to buy, as see in the above image. In addition to the AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon models, there’s an option to buy without a carrier at all....

Now a graphic designer has created a sharp Apple Car concept that imagines what it would look like with a large 15-inch center console screen like Tesla uses with its Model 3 and Model Y. After a particularly long outage today, Apple says it has restored access to both iMessage and FaceTime. This outage was the latest in a long string of problems for Apple’s iMessages platform which seems to go down on a weekly basis. As was reported to be in final talks a few weeks ago, Apple has officially closed on a deal to purchase Beats Electronics for $3B. Apple announced the deal in an official press release: The deal marks the largest acquisition ever made by Apple including its $400 million deal in 1996 to purchase the company NeXT which brought Steve Jobs back to the company (adjusted for inflation, that deal would measure around $600 million in 2014)…...

Earlier this year, it was rumored that Apple was in talks to buy Jay Z-owned streaming service Tidal. Albeit nearly three months late, Apple has now commented on the acquisition rumors in a recent interview with BuzzFeed News, denying that it has any interest in acquiring other streaming services. In the interview, Apple Music leader Jimmy Iovine explained that Apple is perfectly content operating independently as it is now. “We’re really running our own race,” Iovine said....

Apple earlier today made its decision to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone 7 official. As with most controversial moves, the decision was met with mixed feelings from customers, but in a new interview with BuzzFeed News, Apple’s Phil Schiller, Greg Joswiak, Dan Riccio, and Tim Cook are defending the decision, as well as touching on other things… Essentially, there are several reasons why Apple felt it was time to move on from the 3....

Apple is being fined 900,000-euro-or approximately $1.2 million USD-by Italian antitrust authorities after the company was “found responsible for bad commercial practices that harmed consumers.” According to a report by AFP, Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato is imposing the fines related to an investigation regarding AppleCare and the Italian Consumer Code: The Italian Consumer Code -and European Union law- provides consumers with a minimum, mandatory two-year warranty on all electronics....

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has today published an Apple patent application for incorporating displays into woven fabric. While the patent describes a variety of possible uses, some of the language effectively describes use in Apple Watch bands, with several of the drawings also pointing to this. One specific part of the application describes a case where “portable electronic device includes a timekeeping device,” and a list of potential devices includes “electronic wrist watches” … A woven fabric includes light transmissive fibers woven into the fabric to provide a visual display....

So many of Apple’s products either rely on or benefit from wireless Bluetooth connectivity these days that viewing Bluetooth’s roadmap is almost like viewing features for future Apple devices and accessories. Today the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has shared details on updates planned for the wireless connectivity technology in 2016 including improvements to range, transfer speed, and smart applications. Future and potentially even current Apple devices will certainly benefit as a result....

A complaint has been made to a European privacy watchdog that Apple does not fully comply with its GDPR obligations. The General Data Protection Regulation requires companies to supply, on request, a copy of all the data they hold on you. Having tested this with ten users, an Austrian non-profit organization said that Apple failed to supply a complete set of data … GDPR is the world’s toughest privacy law, and places a number of obligations on companies which collect the personal data of European Union citizens....

The website for the Apple Card onboarding process has now gone live ahead of the much-anticipated credit card’s public launch. Tim Cook has previously said that the Apple Card rollout will begin in August. The page says users can setup on any iPhone and iPad with Face ID or Touch ID (apart from iPhone 5s). iPad users can setup the card through the Wallet & Apple Pay settings page. The copy of the page makes reference to an “Apple Card Preview” period....
