In April 2013, when WWDC sold out in a matter of minutes, Apple said that they would hold tech talks later in the year. Apple has now sent out the details for these events, with a clear focus on getting developers up to speed with iOS 7. The talks are going to be held in San Francisco, New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Berlin and London. Unusually, Apple is holding two events in each city this year, one for app development and one dedicated to game development....

Apple has started rolling out a redesigned version of the iTunes Store for users running iTunes 12 less than a week ahead of what’s expected to be the launch of OS X Yosemite. The new storefront takes design cues from the iTunes and App Store home pages on iOS devices, featuring a flattened, side-scrolling carousel at the top of the page in place of the old “card”-style header. This new header can be scrolled horizontally using two fingers or even dragged around with a mouse....

On July 4th of this year, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) made filings public from Apple regarding an Apple-branded piece of iBeacon equipment. The hardware is shown above to be a rounded hub-like device with a USB port and a dedicate on and off switch at the bottom… The documents for the standard FCC testing of wireless devices indicates that the product is designed to work within Apple’s iBeacon ecosystem, and the documents brand the device as an “Apple iBeacon....

Apple has been granted a patent today which illustrates how future products such as iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch could have built-in sensors to detect harmful, poisonous gasses, such as CO or CO2 — often dubbed a silent killer due to its odorless, tasteless yet toxic state. While ingraining a physical gas sensor into a device requires another physical chassis opening — something Apple and the industry is clearly moving away from — it would be extremely interesting to see if the company could retain IP68 water-resistance on iPhone and Apple Watch with this theoretical feature built-in....

Earlier this week, Fred Vogelstein’s book Dogfight went on sale, and today, Leander Kahney’s The Genius Behind Apple’s Greatest Products book about Apple Senior Vice President of Industrial Design Jony Ive went on sale. Dogfight focuses on the emergence of both Apple and Google as the world’s two preeminent technology companies, and it details the competition of the two companies and the respective product development cycles of early iPhones and iPads and devices running Android....

Apple is opening registration for its annual Camp program for kids at Apple Stores starting today. Three tracks for kids 8-12 this year include sessions on iMovie, GarageBand, and coding. Apple has also introduced new Today at Apple offerings with new Kids Hour sessions covering robotics, filmmaking, and illustration for ages 6-12. Apple Camp 2017 starts July 10 and runs through July 28 for free as long as you register ahead of time....

Last week we heard from a reader who experienced a fraudulent charge coming from a clone of his Apple Card. It was a good reminder that even with its security focus and lack of printed numbers, the physical Apple Card is just as susceptible to skimming and cloning as any other credit or debit card. The iMac Pro has been discontinued, with the Apple Store on Friday removed all build-to-order configurations for the product. The only model now available to buy is the $4999 base config and the Apple Store says that is only available ‘while supplies last’. Some other SKUs remain available at third-party retailers for the time being. The iMac Pro was introduced in 2017 to offer more powerful all-in-ones to high-end customers wanting workstation Intel Xeon CPUs....

Apple gold supplies — used in small amounts in circuit boards — are now being sourced from miners who work to not only restore but improve the land used once operations are complete. Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers are now servicing Apple Watch Series 2 models with swollen batteries or that won’t power on. The new service program began yesterday, according to a leaked internal document… To remedy the problem, Apple says it is offering to service eligible devices for free. The company will service eligible devices for up to three years after the original purchase. Eligible devices are any 42mm Series 2 Apple Watch models in the Sport, Nike+, Hermès, and Edition lines....

Apple has been accepting Apple Watch trade-ins online for some time now, however, customers can now take advantage of this program in person at an Apple Store. Spotted by u/ajsayshello- on Reddit, Apple has just started accepting in-store trade-ins for its wearable today. Typically, Apple’s in-store trade-in values are the same as those found on its recycling and trade-in website. However, this Reddit user says that he was offered $100 for his 1st Generation Stainless Steel Apple Watch....

Apple Car rumors have been floating around for years, and a new report from Reuters today shed more light on the highly-secretive project. According to the report, production of the electric Apple Car could start as early as 2024, and Apple is once again planning to build its own branded vehicle. Buried deep in the Cellular section of the Settings app in iOS 9 is a new networking feature called Wi-Fi Assist that lets your iPhone use cellular data over Wi-Fi during poor connectivity. Intended to remedy those times when your iPhone gets stuck trying to load data on a weak Wi-Fi connection due to range or other issues, Wi-Fi Assist raised a concern for many iPhone users on tiered data plans after iOS 9 was released....

Apple hasn’t exactly seen eye-to-eye with president-elect Donald Trump, responding dismissively to Trump’s call for a boycott of Apple products, and witholding support from the GOP convention. But it seems they do agree on one topic: allowing companies to repatriate profits from overseas subsidiaries at a reduced rate of tax. In January, following the insurrection at the US Capital, Apple kicked the social media network Parler off the App Store, citing its lack of moderation. After a recent review, Apple has apparently declined Parler’s request to come back to the App Store. In January, Apple had given Parler 24 hours notice to implement a content moderation system or else face removal from the App Store. Fast forward to today, as the United States Trademark & Patent Office awards the company a major patent grant that covers the intricacies of the iWallet. According to PatentlyApple, this invention is supported by as much as 23 patent claims and dates back to the first quarter of 2009—indicating just how important it must have been to Apple. Apple has avoided steep 15% tariffs on the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook – at least for now. The US has reportedly reached a limited trade deal with China that will ease the tensions between the two countries, preventing new tariffs and rolling back some existing tariffs. As the back to school season continues, Apple has recently brought back its extended Apple Music trial offer for students. For a limited time, eligible college students who are new Apple Music subscribers will receive 6 months of the service for free. Apple typically offers a three-month free trial of Apple Music though promotions from retailers and carriers sometimes extend that to four months. During the back to school season of 2019, Apple offered a similar 6-month free trial of Apple Music for students, but that deal expired last fall....
