Using the tagline ‘Let’s take a field trip,’ Apple says that the event will focus on ‘creative new ideas for teachers and students’ … We’ve seen two invitations so far, in the USA and UK, both inviting people to an event taking place at a high school in Chicago. The invitation contains no details of either the content or format of the event....
Apple has today announced that it sold 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units in the first three days of sales. This includes the 4 million units sold in the first 24 hours of preorder sales. Apple’s newest iPhones have consistently been out of stock across the world, particularly the iPhone 6 Plus which is believed to have faced production issues, limiting the number of available devices for sale....
A week ahead of the Monday, June 8th Worldwide Developers Conference kickoff keynote, Apple has announced that it will be live streaming the event, which starts at 10 AM Pacific/ 1 PM Eastern Time. The company has updated its Apple Events application on the Apple TV to feature next week’s streaming video. Apple is yet to update its website, but the company will likely stream the keynote on its website for both Macs and iOS Devices running the Safari Web browser....

Apple today shared its latest transparency report for the period of July 1 – December 31, 2017. The report shows that Apple received a staggering 29,718 demands to access 309,362 devices in the second half of 2017. Of these requests, Apple complied with 79 percent....

In addition to filing a trademark for the name “iWatch” in Russia and Japan, Apple has requested a trademark for “iWatch” with Mexico’s Institute of Industrial Property. The Mexico-based filing was made public in recent days, but the request was originally filed on June 3rd. Apple filed the iWatch trademark under two categories relating to the hardware and software of mobile devices, according to the submitted documents. Apple has silently extended its worldwide program that offers free repair to 13-inch MacBook Pro models with display backlight issues. While the original program covered eligible laptops for four years after the first unit was sold, the company changed it today to five years. The original program was announced in May 2019 for owners of the 13-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2016. Apple says that some units may exhibit unexpected behavior on the display, such as bright vertical areas at the bottom of the screen....
Apple today announced the next version of macOS, named Big Sur. It features a UI overhaul that brings it closer to iOS in style. Many buttons are now chromeless and highlight as you mouse over. There is a lot more translucency, and app icons in the Dock now resemble their iOS counterparts too. macOS Big Sur also brings Control Center to the desktop for the first time with quick access to brightness and other toggles....
This render provides our first look at Apple’s plan to build a sizeable new R&D center in Japan. We first heard that Apple would be building a facility “on par with Apple’s biggest R&D centers in Asia” from the Japanese Prime Minister late last year. Japanese news site NHK reports that the center will be built on the outskirts of Yokohama, the second biggest city in Japan after nearby Tokyo. The city’s mayor announced in a news conference that Apple had purchased the remains of a Panasonic factory on the site, and would be building a 25,000 square meter facility over four floors....
The approval of two trademarks has raised hopes of seeing the launch of Apple Card in Canada. Canadian trademarks were approved for both Apple Card and Apple Cash. The Canadian Trademarks Database reveals that it took quite some time to get approval … Apple filed its application back in July of 2019, and approval was finally granted just last week. iPhone in Canada spotted the filing. Apple Card was launched in the US in 2019, and hasn’t yet made it to any other countries....
Earlier today, a report explained that Apple was among a handful of companies who had applied for government permission to test drone usage beyond current FAA limits. At WWDC this past June, Apple shared updates on its guidelines for HTML5 use in iOS apps. Now Apple has announced that developers will have an extra six months to prepare their apps to meet the new guidelines. Apple detailed the extended deadline and reiterated the new HTML5 App Store guidelines in a post on its developer site today: Apple still asks developers to update their apps as soon as possible to be in compliance with the new guidelines but is giving another six months to make the necessary changes....
The USPTO has today published an Apple patent application for a flexible display which deforms when touched to provide tactile feedback. Actuators beneath the display would create bumps or ridges in the display to simulate buttons and other virtual objects. The patent also describes a speaker and microphone that could work through the display, potentially making for sleeker and more water-resistant devices. The display described would be sensitive to both touch and pressure … Electronic devices may be provided that contain flexible displays and internal components....
As it has done previously, Apple kicked off a one-day sale in Japan today to celebrate the start of a new year. Customers purchasing select iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Beats models online or at an Apple store will be eligible to receive a gift card valued between 3,000 and 24,000 yen. In a move that will certainly please iOS developers, Apple has finally disabled the ability to write app reviews on the latest beta version of iOS 9. When attempting to review applications in the store, beta users will now be met with a message informing them that the feature is unavailable. The change was spotted by several Twitter users earlier this evening. App makers have long been put off by low reviews from users experiencing problems related to unsupported versions of the mobile operating system, which often hurt an app’s overall ratings and possibly affected their downloads as potential buyers took note of the negative feedback without knowing the full context....

Apple has added a few new iPhone 12 silicone cases to the online store. The new colors include sunflower, cloud blue, and electric orange. All three colors are available for each of the four iPhone 12 models. They are priced at the same $49 and are available for delivery starting this Wednesday. These cases are, of course, MagSafe compatible, so they’ll work with the MagSafe wallet and MagSafe chargers. They join a variety of other colors introduced in October, as well as the Spring colors introduced after the April event....
Today, Apple has announced that App Store sales topped $10 billion in 2013. In December alone, customers spent over $1 billion in the store, a record-breaking figure — the most successful month in App Store history.
