Time Magazine just released its list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2012, and Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook—following in the footsteps of Steve Jobs— made the list alongside Hilary Clinton, Tim Tebow, Rihanna, and Salman Khan. Also featured on the list this year, after stemming from the incredible success of his “Steve Jobs“ biography, is author Walter Isaacson. Each entry on the list includes a description written by someone close to the influential person....

Following Taylor Swift’s public criticism of Apple’s decision not to pay artists and labels for plays during Apple Music’s three-month free trial period, Eddy Cue took to Twitter to announce a swift policy change. The executive assured Swift that music producers will now be paid for every play on the Apple Music service, including those that are part of a user’s free trial. Lots of people plan to buy the iPhone X, but Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak isn’t one of them – at least, not on day one. He said this will be the first year he doesn’t upgrade to a new iPhone at launch … Woz made the comment to CNBC, though didn’t explain why. He currently uses an iPhone 8, though he doesn’t appear overly impressed with that either. He also expressed skepticism that Face ID would work the way it was supposed to, but CNBC‘s piece again doesn’t say why....

Ahead of the first orders arriving to customers on Friday, Apple has published a new press release today recapping the new iMac, iPad Pro, and Apple TV 4K. The company confirms that the three new products will hit Apple Stores on the same day. Apple also confirms that while only select colors of the iMac will be available to purchase at Apple Stores, all seven will be on display. Apple first revealed that only select M1 iMac colors would be available to purchase at Apple Stores last month, leaving some to wonder whether this meant that only certain colors would be on display....

If Apple plans to offer artist exclusives as a way to encourage sign-ups to its rebranded Beats Music streaming service, it will be facing new competition. TechCrunch reports that Tidal, the high-definition music service being relaunched later today by new owner Jay Z, is set to announce some exclusive deals with big-name artists. The artists named in the report have all been using the #tidalforall hashtag in recent tweets and Instagram posts … Tidal’s plan of attack will be to ink first-window deals with the artists, where Tidal would get first releases of tracks from big-name artists ahead of any other digital streaming services....

Apple CEO Tim Cook today posted an open letter on Apple’s website that addresses the recent protests and riots fuelled by the death of George Floyd under police arrest, described by Cook as a “senseless killing”. Cook says that everyone must stand together and recognize the fear and outrage from recent events and the long history of racism. Earlier this week, whispers started arising that Apple was planning to hold its September 9th iPhone event at the Bill Graham Civic Center Auditorium in San Francisco. At the time, however, there was very little evidence to support the claims. Today, San Francisco news outlet Hoodline reports that a “trusty source” has confirmed that Apple is indeed hosting its event at the Bill Graham Civic Center. The Planning Department documents simply list that a company has reserved the location for a “trade show” running from September 4th to September 10th, although no company has publicly confirmed that it has reserved the location....

In celebration of the holiday season, Apple last night threw a Beer Bash event with singer Gwen Stefani. Apple generally throws these concerts as a perk to employees and on a semi-annual basis. Many employees in attendance last night took to Twitter to share the experience… Stefani performed songs off of her new holiday album, “You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” as well as many of her classic hits. Like last year, Apple is once again dedicating the entirety of its Apple.com home page to commemorate Marin Luther King Jr Day. Fast Company today has published its list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019. While Apple topped this list last year, 2019’s results are a bit different, with Apple falling to spot number 17. This year, Fast Company has named Meituan Dianping as its most innovative company. Meituan Dianping is a Chinese tech platform that “expedites the booking and delivery of services such as food, hotel stays, and movie tickets....

Apple is continuing its recent hiring spree from the automotive industry for its not-so-secretive car project, this time hinting at the company’s work prototyping car parts. The new hires include former Tesla employee David Masiukiewicz, who joins Apple this month as Sr. Model Maker at its Product Realization Lab where Apple prototypes many of its products. Masiukiewicz left Tesla in March and officially started at Apple in April. At Tesla, he listed his position as “Senior CNC Programmer R&D Hardware Prototyping,” according to his LinkedIn profile, noting his work on “Precision 5 axis CNC machining of powertrain, suspension and chassis components using CATIA v5 and Openmind hyperMILL software,” and “Programming of Mill/Turn equipment using Esprit....

While the purpose and future of Apple’s autonomous car project is uncertain, the company clearly still has an interest in the technology. What appears to be an Apple self-driving car has been spotted, with an interesting new sensor array… Background Apple’s self-driving cars have so far used a mix of sensors, which the company has said includes LiDAR, radar, and cameras. LiDAR is similar to radar but uses laser pulses. A lot of autonomous cars have used LiDAR as their primary means of reading the road, as it provides the on-board computers with a highly-detailed 3D map of the car’s surroundings....

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has acquired WiFiSLAM for “around” $20 million. Apple has confirmed the deal, but did not share its purpose for the company. According to a description of the firm, the company has created technology that uses ambient WiFi signals to precisely track the location of a smartphone or other mobile devices. Notably, it appears that the technology can be utilized to construct in-door mapping solutions....

As Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference rises in popularity, a close-knit community of related developer and designer-driven events has grown around the weeklong conference. Returning again in 2018 is the annual Layers conference, a three-day design event hosted right across the street from WWDC. Apple has doubled the storage of its most expensive iCloud storage plan from 1 TB to 2 TB, retaining the same $9.99 per month price point. The old 1 TB plan is no longer available, so Apple still offers a total of three paid iCloud storage plans. The company has also announced that multiple users will be able to share a single iCloud storage plan with Family Sharing in iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra....

Apple has made several changes to its factory security guidelines to help prevent leaks, according to a new report from The Information. According to the updated guidelines, the company’s manufacturing partners can no longer collect biometric data such as fingerprints or face scans from Apple employees, but the same does not apply to factory workers. The Information says that it obtained an internal Apple document outlining the changes. One change is that manufacturing partners with which Apple works, such as Foxconn and Pegatron, are no longer allowed to collect biometric data from Apple employees, but they are still free to collect such data from their own employees, even if those employees are making Apple products....
