After previewing OS X Yosemite for the second time since its WWDC event in July, Apple announced today that OS X 10.10 Yosemite will be available today through the Mac App Store [direct link when live] at no cost to users. Mac users running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and 10.9 Mavericks can upgrade can upgrade to 10.10 Yosemite, although newer hardware is required for some features. OS X Yosemite brings a redesigned look and feel to the Mac as well as several features like iCloud Drive, Handoff and Continuity, Notification Center widgets, and more....

After giving Parler 24 hours to introduce new content moderation policies, Apple announced today that Parler has officially been kicked off the App Store. This means the app has been removed from the App Store for new downloads. Apple bans Parler from the App Store This comes after Apple threatened to remove Parler yesterday evening. At the time, Apple said that Parler had 24 hours to implement measures to address the objectionable content on its platform....

Apple has updated the hashflag used for WWDC 2021. When the tag went live last week, it was showing the ‘thumbs up’ tapback reaction. But now, it has been changed to the emphasis tapback with the exclamation mark symbol … Apple has leant heavily on Messages iconography for its WWDC artwork this year. Blue iMessage bubbles appear frequently in the WWDC advertising, as well as a throwback to the ‘Sent with Lasers’ animated message effect....

Update, June 29: Apple is running different full two-page ads in the Toronto Star and other Canadian newspapers today. The ads includes the same text and “Designed by Apple in California” tagline as the one above, but use alternate images that have also appeared on Apple’s “Designed by Apple” web page. We previously reported that Apple was starting a brand new ad campaign that focuses on its ecosystem and the people that use it rather than specific products, and today a reader notes that it has also brought the campaign to print with a full two-page ad in the Toronto Star (pictured above)....

(Thanks iOSVlog Daily) Apple revealed today that it will indeed be streaming video of the anticipated opening keynote from WWDC next week, and now banners are beginning to be displayed through Moscone West in San Francisco where Apple’s developer conference will be held. The banners so far reflect the same design used in the WWDC promotional material for this year including the “Write the code. Change the world” slogan used by Apple....

Shortly after yesterday’s Congressional hearing, Apple filed a formal objection to the court order instructing it to assist the FBI in breaking into an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters. Apple had previously filed its mandatory response, in which it called for the court to vacate the order. This was a 65-page detailed document setting out the reasons the company believed the order should not have been granted....

Apple today has shared its annual App Store review shutdown window which will be the same as last year, December 23-27. In an update on its Developer website, Apple shared a reminder that new apps and updates won’t be accepted during the scheduled holiday downtime and encourages developers to plan ahead. The announcement also reiterates the new ways developers can use promotions, features, and events with the updated App Store in iOS 11....

A variety of graphics issues have been reported from some buyers of the new MacBook Pro models, ranging from strange transparency glitches on app windows to corrupt textures and tearing, as seen above. You can see a summary of the main complaints in our previous coverage of this issue. The problem does not appear consistently for every new MacBook Pro user, leading some people to believe it is a hardware issue....

While announcing some iOS 8 related updates today at its iPad/Mac press event, Apple’s Craig Federighi today compared adoption of the newly released iOS 8 to the installed base of the most recent Android release, KitKat. In the slide above Apple points out that 48% of users are now on iOS 8 with another 46% of iOS users running the year-old iOS 7 release. That, as Apple points out, compares to 54% of Android users running Android Jelly Bean first released in 2012 with only 25% running the latest Android KitKat release....

Yesterday’s unveiling of the all-new Mac Pro at Apple’s WWDC keynote certainly made up for the fact that we didn’t see any updates to Apple’s pro apps like we we’re hoping. However, you might have missed Phil Schiller’s rather quick confirmation that a new version of Final Cut Pro X is indeed coming later this year: Schiller didn’t go into specific features that we’ll be seeing in the new version, but support for the new Mac Pro means support for the machine’s dual workstation GPUs and AMD FirePro Graphics, something that many other pro apps will need to update in order to support....

Apple has today filed a patent for a set of intriguing new autonomous vehicle features called “Peloton.” The filing describes the ability for multiple self-driving cars to share battery capacity via a “connector arm,” dynamically adjust positions, increase efficiency, and more. Apple filed the details with the US Patent and Trademark Office today. Named “Peloton,” which in cycling refers to the main group of riders, this patent describes some advanced features to make autonomous vehicles travel further and more efficiently....

Reliance Retail today told India’s Economic Times that it plans to launch 60 Apple Premium Reseller stores across the country by 2011. The company this week launched its fourth iStore in Jaipur. CEO Ajay Baijal said the shop is going to stock the entire range of Apple products for both the professional and consumer segments. Indian consumers can also look forward to the launch of “up to” 150 ‘Reliance Digital’ mega-stores, offering consumer electronics products, across India in the next two years....

Apple just posted a press release announcing debut iPhone 5 sales topped 5 million units sold since going on sale on Friday and pre-order Sept. 14. The Cupertino-based company also announced 100 million iOS devices are now running iOS 6. CEO Tim Cook noted, “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date....

News broke this afternoon that AT&T-owned Warner Bros. is looking to sell its gaming division. Could this be a perfect opportunity for Apple to make its young gaming service more compelling with big titles like Mortal Kombat and Batman Arkham? Apple Arcade features over 100 games, many of them exclusive to the platform that is supported by a $5/month subscription. While Apple doesn’t break out its subscriber count for the service in quarterly earnings calls, some analysts think the service could see around 12 million paying users by the end of this year....

In addition to its new software updates today, Apple has also updated the Apple Card privacy policy. As first reported by TechCrunch, the new privacy policy allows additional anonymized data to be shared with Goldman Sachs. According to the report, Apple believes that it will be able to “expand the kind of user that might be able to secure credit” by sharing a “richer, but still anonymized credit assignment model with Goldman Sachs....

Macs? That’s right. New figures from the research group as reported by eWeek reveal that 66 per cent of laptops sold in US retail stores that cost $1,000 or more are Macs. And while that share slides to just 14 per cent for computers costing under $1,000, the news still confirms Apple’s growing footprint in retail Mac sales. NPD vice president Stephen Baker told eWeek that Apple’s notebook marketshare is growing at twice the market rate, with Windows notebooks “pretty flat right now”....

Released in 2011 and 2012, Mac OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion were the last paid software updates for the Mac. Ten years ago, users needed to pay Apple $19.99 for the latest version of its OS X, and now you can finally download these two for free. As reported by MacWorld, through support pages, it’s possible to download them for free. Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is available for older systems that are not compatible with the latest version of macOS and requires the following: Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor OS X Snow Leopard 10....

During Apple’s most recent earnings call in October, Tim Cook teased that Apple Card would soon be adding 0% financing for iPhone purchases. Ahead of that feature rolling out, Apple has updated the Wallet app on iOS to reference this new monthly installment option. On the earnings call in October, Cook explained that Apple Card users will be able to finance iPhone purchases over 24 months with 0% interest. You’ll also still get 3% Daily Cash on your total iPhone purchase....

Another interesting discovery related to the Contacts app in iOS 5. You can now, if you want, add ‘related people’ to your contact cards. The Related People field is disabled by default so you add it first by tapping the Add Field option in the contact card editing interface. Choosing Related People at the bottom lets you pick among a dozen pre-populated labels such as mother, father, parent, brother, sister, child, friend, spouse, partner, assistant, manager and other....

The rumors about Apple making its own EV shot back onto the scene last week with a report from Reuters about production possibly starting by 2024. Sources have said that Apple has a breakthrough monocell battery in the works and more. However, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a special note on Apple Car that says the market is “too bullish about Apple Car” and that 2025 would be the very earliest we could see the vehicle launch and says realistically, 2028 or later is possible....
